Why you should join the Miro<>Junction hackathon this January
Next month from January 19–21 we’re partnering with Junction for a weekend full of innovation and hacking on the award-winning Miro Developer Platform. Whether you’re looking for your next pet project or something else, why not use this opportunity to build an app on top of Miro?
By joining the hackathon, you can:
- Build an app or integration that could be distributed to Miro’s 60+ million users
- Create or join a team of other enthusiastic developers
- Win prizes and more!
Go from zero to sixty in no time
One of the biggest benefits of developing on top of our platform is the ability to quickly and seamlessly get a working application running on Miro in no time.
You can bootstrap a Web SDK app in minutes from the command line by running `npx create-miro-app` and selecting a language and framework of your choice. Or you can leverage a repo of pre-built example apps in our public GitHub repo. If you’ve never tried it, now’s the time. 😉
We also have a comprehensive set of resources in a number of different mediums — including our Developer Portal guides, YouTube, Discord, Community Forum, and more — anytime you might need some inspiration or guidance.
But more than this, developing on Miro’s developer platform is like working on a project with a familiar friend. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel when we’ve already handled those time consuming parts of getting started with development for you.
Easily distribute your app or integration
Perhaps one of the most rewarding aspects of developing on top of our platform is the option to make your app public to Miro’s growing audience of over 60 million users (of course, you can keep your app private, too). In this way, you can empower Miro users to take their product development and innovation workflows to the next level.
Apps or integrations that are built on top of the Miro Developer Platform can (if you want) be published on our public Marketplace.
Apps built during a hackathon have already seen success in the Marketplace — just take a look at the PlantUML and Mermaid apps. These were originally created during a past Miro hackathon, and are now being used by a collective 13k users.
Outside of Miro, here are just a few ways other developers and developer teams have built apps on top of Miro:
- Storylane participated in our Miro Apps Marathon earlier this year to develop an integration that enhances the collaboration experience.
- Deloitte built an internal app on top of Miro that integrates AI-generated images into their workflows.
- Orbit Ventures integrated OpenAI’s language learning model to bridge the gap between ChatGPT and a Miro board.
If you build something cool, submitting your app for review and publication is just a step away. And who knows, it could just be the next big thing!
Win prizes and more
Aside from the chance to partner with other participants to hack the next big thing on Miro, and potentially distribute your app to 60+ million users, prizes will be awarded for the top 3 teams’ submissions:
First Place Team
€2,500 + Golden Ticket to Junction’s next flagship event
This team’s app or integration scored highest across the board when it comes to Technical Excellence, User Impact, and Solving a real problem.
Second Place
€1,500
This team’s app or integration was high-quality and scored in the top percentile for at least two of the judging criteria: Technical Excellence, User Impact, Solve a real problem.
Special Prize
€1,000
This team’s app or integration best utilizes a Miro beta capability. It creates a dynamic experience for end users and fosters an environment of collaboration directly on a Miro board.
