Today was my first time looking at the public health website for Alameda where I live. I was surprised to read that public health officials are only getting partial data from academic and commercial testing labs — they’re only getting reports of people testing positive, with no guarantees of numbers coming in negative.

This press release “Seven Bay Area Jurisdictions Order Laboratories Testing for COVID-19 to Report More Comprehensive Testing Data to State and Local Authorities — High Quality Data Essential for Combatting the Spread of COVID-19” was nice for an experiment in visual journalism.

I still have a lot to learn! I’m very inspired by the Reportage Award sponsored by Moleskin. Hopefully comics and illustration can make public health more accessible.
