Safety Catch

Reflection,
I restrain my hand
For fear
(Blame the tales
Told to hasten food
Down my innocent throat)
Of the seven years
Of bad luck
(That have dogged
My footsteps, it seems,
Like you, a shadow,
Through my life)
My smashing fist
Would release
In the process
Of freeing myself
From this bland limbo
That makes me do
The things I do.
