Day 16: Promise

Scripture

“Even to your old age and gray hairs
I am HE, I am HE who will sustain you.
I have made you and I will carry you;
I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”
— Isaiah 46:4 (NIV)

Reflection

Have you ever watched young children at a playground? They explore and climb and inevitably end up in a scary spot with no idea how to get out. They call for their daddy to rescue them — to carry them — and with complete trust, they fall into his arms. It’s such a beautiful picture of how GOD longs to be the ABBA FATHER that we trust to sustain us! Yet we quickly hear the lies of this world: your bank account should sustain you, your relationship should rescue you, your career should carry you.

Participation

Oh, beloved children — the ONE who made you is the ONE who longs and delights to rescue you! As you read the promises in Isaiah 46:4 today, consider where you might be looking to something else to carry or sustain you… and chose to turn instead to the trustworthy arms of your ABBA.

For Families:

  1. YOUNGER KIDS READ: “The Captain of the Storm” on page 236 of The JESUS Storybook Bible / OLDER KIDS READ: Matthew 8:23–27
  2. ASK: What would you do if you were one of the fishermen on the boat during the storm?
  3. TALK: When we are scared- when something happens to us or someone does something to us that scares us- we have a HELPER forever and always! Ask HIM for help and just like HE calmed the waves, stopped the wind, and took away the fear in the fishermen, HE will do the same for you.
