Scripture

“And they were bringing children to HIM that HE might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. But when JESUS saw it, HE was indignant and said to them, ‘Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of GOD. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of GOD like a child shall not enter it.’ And HE took them in HIS arms and blessed them, laying HIS hands on them.”

— Mark 10:13–16 (ESV)

Reflection

Imagine the dependence of an infant in the arms of their parent, the audacity of a toddler jumping into the arms of their parent from a ledge. We’re conditioned to unlearn these things to become “mature adults.” But along the way we begin approaching GOD the same way, thinking that HE desires “mature adults” with accrued credit, accomplished resumes of holiness and exercising only a “calculated risk” version of faith.

Participation

Consider in what ways you’ve come to rest only in your various displays of maturity rather than the bold-faced folly of GOD’s love. Be reminded that all of CHRIST’s righteousness has been given to you, and rest in the beautiful mysterious gospel that “there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in CHRIST JESUS” (Romans 8:1, ESV).
