As seen on http://brandeiscenter.com, a Sikh man cleans up after the gurdwara gets vandilized.

Four days after the 9/11 attacks, the hate crimes commenced. A turban and a beard symbolized terrorism for many Americans. Innocent lives were taken on the horrific day of the September 11 attacks. As the first building was hit, people ran for their lives. Many jumped out of the buildings and committed suicide. Emotions ran high and soon after, the second building was hit. Americans were in shock and still to this day, it is a nightmare that we simply cannot forget.

Were there only Americans in those buildings and those planes that lost their lives? Is it right to judge religions that also lost loved ones on that day? Along with Americans, many other innocent lives were lost, families left in despair, and mothers left waiting for their children who will never return.

Sikhs in particular were targeted for their appearances after the attacks. Without regards to faith, lives were taken simply for being Sikh. Mistreatment of Sikhs not only is prevalent in America, but it also is a big issue in India. Sikhs have been through multiple genocides in India, with the most recent one dating back to 1984. Where do they go if they cant even be accepted in their own country?
