At 19:00, on Oct 13, UTC+8, the Human Protocol Technology Director, Harjyot Singh, was invited to give an AMA on Human Protocol Chinese community on Mixin Messenger. According to the questions collected before the event, 5 high-quality questions were selected for live sharing, and 5 questions were picked during the AMA. Here are the main contents are organized as follows:

Who is Harjyot?

Originally from India, moved to UK for education. Studied AI at University of Edinburgh — Masters in Entrepreneurship from University of Oxford (Saïd Business School). Worked as an engineer since initial university days and got introduced to blockchain industry in the pre ethereum era. After university founded my first startup that used blockchain to prevent copyright infringement, next one was using ai and blockchain to tackle misinformation and now here I am at Human Protocol, where we are trying to build infrastructure that will power decentralised marketplaces of the future

Q1: Does your technology face organizations or individuals? What kind of services are mainly provided?

You can imagine us building two things at human protocol: A) the core protocol itself that is the “engine” for dual sided marketplaces ie. takes care of job creation, matching, verification, payments & delivery done in a totally decentralised manner. This engine in essence is targeted at companies and entrepreneurs who want to build marketplaces in a variety of domains where they are experts.
B) our own initial marketplace built on top of The core protocol — the ML data marketplace. Again the main job creators here would be organisations, startups & researches while job solvers would be individuals.

Q2: How to combine blockchain and ML?

At human protocol, we utilise blockchain to be the underlying infrastructure that powers the fundamentals of the marketplaces. Ie all parts of the system are executed based on pre determined and audited contracts and all data is publically available on multiple ledgers for complete transparency.

AI and ML on the other hand are used for the “smarter” parts ie. Matching job to solver, verifying solution quality of a solver, and for some kinds of jobs even proposing a solution that the solver just has to QA!

Q3: What changes can Human protocol bring to our life?

For most individuals, as the pandemic has taught us, traditional jobs can be quite temporary and we all might have skill sets that allow us to earn money from just an access to an internet connected machine. Human Protocol and it’s affiliated marketplaces will bring these jobs to you based on and individuals unique skill sets. And guess what? We won’t control how you get paid, how much you get paid and when you get paid — it’s all handled by various public contracts you can see.

A good example I like to drill the last point is, would you rather trust your country’s bank to process an overseas money transfer or a software system that will do it in seconds with no hidden fees?

Q4: What are the plans for future development?

First and foremost, we just wanna highlight our successful development: the launch on mainnet & the launch of the HUMAN App, where people can earn $HMT by completing jobs within the app (app.humanprotocol.org ) However, there are plenty of things to looking forward to:

  • Full-fledged grants & Bounty programs
  • New job markets along with the ML Marketplace
  • New jobs and interesting tasks on the ML Marketplace
  • Partnerships with Top chains

Q5: Are there any current landing applications or scenarios for Human?

app.humanprotocol.org ! Go solve some ML tasks, refer your friends and earn some $HMT! If you’re a developer, come and help us build more applications: https://humanprotocol.org/devs.

If you’re a business looking to build with human protocol, email us at grants@hmt.ai and we can get the conversation started :).

The rest live questions were took over by Ryan, head of Chinese community.

Q6: What are the advantages of hCaptcha compared to other captchas like Google? And what other tools will you launch soon to make the internet more human?

What are the advantages of hcaptcha compared to Google’s recaptcha. Recaptcha uses a large amount of user data to identify whether a user is a natural person or a bot and create user profiles. While hcaptcha is a privacy-oriented CAPTCHA service that does not sell personal data, collects only the minimum required data, transparently exposes the methods of collecting and using data. It supports Privacy Pass to reduce the time of users’ verification to make a better user experience. In addition, hcaptcha can run in more areas.

Q7: What elites are there in Human Protocol’s consulting team?

About the HUMAN team, the team currently has decades of software and machine learning expertise, focusing on machine learning in the meta-learning and vision domains. Members come from Stanford, MIT, Apple, Google, Cloudera, etc., and have extensive machine learning, cryptography, and security expertise, including previous work at Brave in the early stages of BAT. Details can be found on the team and consultants page on the official website.

Q8: Users are always concerned about the security and UI when using the app, so how does Human solve these issues?

All of our software passes the audit from the best third parties, including CertiK. People could find the audit report on our Github, and many of our core tools are open-sourced, which allows us to prioritize and continually incorporate community solutions.

Q9: What is the Human moat? How do you avoid being overtaken by later imitators?

The core of CAPTCHA is artificial intelligence, and the first cooperative application using HUMAN protocol is hCaptcha. hCaptcha has been very successful and already accounts for 15% of the Internet traffic on the web, which is a significant 15%. This is our first critical collaborative application, and we are rolling out new tools for more granular machine learning on tagging systems.

Q10: What is the Human Protocol’s economic model?

HMT is the native token of the HUMAN protocol. It is the primary mechanism of value transfer in the network. For example, those who need to put a million graphs through artificial intelligence must use HMT to pay those willing to accept and eventually complete this task successfully. Still, of course, the type of AI tasks can be very diverse.
