Mixin Network Developer Competition Judge Dr.Joseph Liu:

Dr.Joseph.Liu, god father of Monero, chief scientist of HCASH, senior lecturer in the faculty of Information Technology at Monash University .

Joseph received his PhD degree in Information Engineering from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in July 2004, specializing in cyber security, protocols for securing wireless networks, privacy, authentication, and provable security. He has been developing cryptographic algorithms for secure peer-to-peer transactions since 2004. Prior to that he was a research scientist at Infocomm Security Department, Institute for Infocomm Research (12R) in Singapore for more than 7 years. He is the co-founder of ProvSec (International Conference on Provable Security). He has served as the program chair of ProvSec2007, 2014, and on the program committee of more than 35 international conferences.

Joseph’s research mainly focuses on cyber security and applying various cryptographic technologies into real systems including Cloud Security, Electronic Healthcare System Security, Future Transportation Security, Lightweight Security, Applied Cryptograph, Smart City, Cryptocurrencies, etc. He has published more than 80 refereed journal articles and conference papers and received the Best Paper Award from ESORCS 2014. In 2017, Joseph was invited to join the Advisory Board of a new cryptocurrency — Hcash. In 2018, he received the‘ICT Researcher of the Year’Award given by the Australian Computer Society (ACS), the largest professional body in Australia representing the ICT sector. He played a role in creating the Linkable Ring Signature, which Monero, a cryptocurrency similar to Bitcoin, used to add a layer of privacy to the transaction process.

As cryptocurrencies proliferate and become more mainstream, Joseph is staying on the cutting edge. He is part of a team developing a new cryptocurrency system called Hcash that will enable secure transaction between different cryptocurrencies.
