“World Exclusive: Corrales, New Mexico. MIXONIUM Ultra Media (mixonium.com) announces the integration of 3D objects into the platform capabilities, paving the way for new education, training, eRetail, sales, corporate communications, and entertainment experiences.”

Well, that was the formal press release, but let’s try it in normal English: “Dude, you won’t even believe this. MIXONIUM used to be cutting edge by making it super easy to dashboard images, audio clips, geo-maps, videos, PDF documents and URLs. But now they’ve added 3D, you gotta check this out…

Here’s the link to a sample with farm stuff…”

Ok, so somewhere in between is probably more appropriate. But here’s the scoop. MIXONIUM has been testing final beta for the last week for our integration with SketchFab, and we’ve pushed it to production. It couldn’t be any easier. Just go to SketchFab and either upload your own .obj 3D model (you’ll need to get an account if you don’t have one yet), or find a model you can use (there are zillions of them), then drag that URL favicon over into the MIX you’re building.

Boom.

MIXONIUM does all the work for you. Now, this is gonna take a minute to contemplate the implications, because with the agile and interoperable nature of a MIX, 3D interactive embeds take on profound and more practical significance. Look at this example — film that opened this weekend —

Sample MIX with 3D Embed

The film is an inspirational story about a WWII prisoner-survivor who was shot down over the Pacific Ocean and survived 41 days in a life boat. So here’s a promotion MIX for the film. Trailer, interviews, soundtrack music video, ..and now a life raft. Play with it. Think about his story. Pretty powerful.

There are so many ideas for the use of 3D now, which may obviously include games, but look at this example:

We see that beyond “bread box” or vehicles-sized models, we can look at environments, architecture, neighborhoods, and, yes, French chateaux. Elton John recorded Honky Chateau (had Rocket Man on it) in a chateau. Bet you didn’t know that…

Of course, if you want that new 3D business card, you’ll have to go to a capture stage and 3D-ify yourself. Obi Wan watch out…

And in case you like to know the big picture, what we’re doing here at MIXONIUM is building a future-proof platform, where new file types, and new digital services (like video conferencing, voice calls, even launching native apps) can all be easily mashed together to make sharable posts that are happy on social media, email, texting/SMS, and even embedding in your own website. So there — that’s the big picture.

Give the new 3D features a try — the feature is available in the freemium environments right now, and we’re open for suggestions about use cases — let us know what you envision; or better yet, just go make it!
