Within the span of 18 months, decentralized finance (DeFi) has become a thriving sector with over $250bn total value locked. With most of today’s value locked on a single network, Ethereum attracts most of the DeFi activity of the crypto ecosystem.
Since the inception of Ethereum, various projects emerged as alternatives to Ethereum to solve several major problems. These projects, aptly named ‘’Ethereum killer’’, have so far not succeeded to overtake Ethereum. Nevertheless, recently we’ve seen several projects led by exceptional teams with promising tangible value and new perspectives for users.
While Ethereum has been the most dominant chain within the DeFi landscape, we believe that the future does not revolve solely on Ethereum but on multiple chains that coexist and grow harmoniously. The rise of DeFi has illustrated the need for Ethereum scaling solutions to support an ecosystem of DeFi applications. We are grateful for the innovation and opportunities that Ethereum has created, but as usage on Ethereum grows we’ve seen fees on Ethereum rise to levels that make it too expensive for everyone to use. We at Mizar have seen both promising L2 and L1 solutions like Polygon, Fantom, Avalanche and Terra to name a few. We believe in building more effective cross-chain infrastructure to support the emergence of a multichain future.
We don’t see a future where all activity is centralized on one chain but where we are connecting to various technologies and engaged communities. The coexistence of all networks is needed for the collective ambition to disrupt established centralized legacy institutions.

Why did we choose to build on DeFi?
In recent years we’ve seen a massive surge in popularity for decentralized finance. While we think centralized exchanges are amazing and have contributed massively to the growth of cryptocurrencies in recent years, we believe that the shift to more transparent and decentralized solutions are sparked by concerns over regulations, privacy and security.
With our experience building centralized exchange solutions we wanted to create a product that would fit with the average DeFi user fed up with products that are limited to a single chain or limited in their use.
