Virat Kohli vs KL Rahul
Is Virat Kohli still the best batsman ? Is KL Rahul overtaking Virat Kohli ? Who has better numbers in last 5 years ? What does the IPL data say ? Want to know some of the unknown stats of IPL ?
Let me answer the above questions using IPL data analytics with python(you can check the github.com repository for the full code- the link given at the end of the blog).
Let us look at some of the unknown stats of IPL, and then we will analyze the stats of Virat and KL Rahul for the last 5 IPL seasons.
Unknown/Little known stats of IPL:
- We know that Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum are among the most destructive batsmen in IPL, but the unknown fact is Chris Gayle and McCullum are the top 2 batsmen with the highest dot ball percentage (min balls faced 2000) with 46 and 45% respectively.
- Even though Chris Gayle is at the top of the table in terms of dot ball percentage, he is the batsman with 2nd highest strike rate(min balls faced 2000)
- Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner are the batsmen who have taken the most 3s in their IPL career, both with 23 3s, then comes Virat Kohli with 19 3s.
- Most 4s are hit in the 4th over of IPL till now with a tally of 1911 and most 6s are hit in the 20th over with a tally of 866.
- David Warner scored the most runs in the 1st over(424) and MS Dhoni scored the most runs in the 20th over of IPL (655).
- Bhuvaneshwar Kumar conceded the most runs in the 1st over while DJ Bravo conceded the most runs in the 20th over.
- Dinesh Karthik was involved in 37 run-outs, in which he was out only 13 times, and his partner got dismissed on other 24 occasions.

Comparison between Virat and Rahul (2018 to 2022):
- From the above graphs, we can clearly observe that KL Rahul’s runs, balls faced, fours, sixes, strike rate, runs per innings, and balls per dismissal are way ahead when compared to Virat since season 2018.
- Let's appreciate the stats of KL Rahul and hope that Virat Kohli will come back to his prime form in the coming days.
