We believe blockchain technology brings us a truly native digital medium for peer-to-peer value exchange. Although it is too early to tell, there is little doubt that a strong job market awaits young professionals pursuing a blockchain-based career. Studies reveal that eighty-four percent of large companies are involved in the industry, and over the next few years, demand for blockchain experts is about to soar.

We want to support that workforce in adopting blockchains and using them as tools to re-invent business processes,—that’s why we launched our MLG Blockchain Certification!

With the help of Bitmaker as our sponsor, we inaugurated the certification launch with a two-day bootcamp held on September 15 and 16 in Toronto. It covered a broad spectrum of topics including blockchain basics, historical background, regulatory compliance, ledger-based economics, initial coin offerings (ICOs), popular use cases in blockchain as well as cryptos such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The event witnessed a unique blend of participants — students and retirees to industrial enthusiasts from sectors like insurance, HR, pharmaceutical, banking and product marketing. A total of 14 students completed the course where one-third of the attendance comprised of females.

Day 1 of the bootcamp kicked off with Dave McKay’s session outlining a brief overview of blockchain — the future of technology. After introducing the participants with the fundamental concepts and ensuring that they were fully versed with the nuances of different blockchains, they were led into a primer on basic cryptography.

Next day, that is Day 2 of the bootcamp began with discussing crypto mining and gradually headed into the world of ICOs, including both the economic and technical sides. The last day turned out to be even more fun as the students were given a chance to demonstrate their skills and knowledge acquired from the intensive sessions.

Participants were divided into groups to present a use case that they had worked on for an industry sector they chose. Dairy supply chain provenance tracking, HR blockchain to validate employment and educational experience and healthcare electronic medical record permissions and sharing among team members were some of the topics that were taken up during the activity.

The bootcamp was a great success for our team at MLG! We were overwhelmed with the positive feedback that we received during the closure of the event. The participants went on sharing that though they were able to gather information online about blockchain, having a person that they could ask specific questions of was of immense benefit. Also, they appreciated hearing from a blockchain professional anecdotes and opinions on how it is being used now and where this could go in the future.
