I forced myself back to reality — and into the role of husband and father
The following day, I awoke to the early morning sun creeping through the blinds, painting stripes across the floor. I pushed my head back into the pillow and sighed deeply — my mind was a conflicted mess.
The image of Ginny laid out on the sofa from the night before was the first thing I thought about, and my temples throbbed with the pulse of guilt beating through my veins.
Last night had been a wonderful whirlwind, an escape, a chance to feel young and alive again. But now the morning literally shone a light on the horror of what I’d done — broken my vows.
I remembered Ginny said she would return for her car, so I got up and went into the en-suite.
Leaning against the washbasin, I stared at my reflection, hardly recognising the cheating face that looked back. A face with crows feet and greying hair at the temples, one that should know better. Yet Ginny’s perfume lingered on my body — sweet and sharp — a reminder of how good…
