Feelings on Film
There is a perfume, an aroma to a cinema which heightens our understanding and experience of the film we are watching.
I have loved film since I was young, and that’s a long time ago now. There are good films and there are a lot of films that get by on hype of the critic and a good media campaign. Especially around this time of year, as we hit Oscar season.
But what do I love about cinema? It is many things. When you enter a screening and smell the burnt popcorn. It’s a sense which is so complicated. There is no reason why you want to sit in a room full of strangers, but the minute the lights go down and you relax in your chair, and start to concentrate on every strain of light that is hitting your eyes and persuading your soul to go on a journey for two hours. It is not very easy to explain why we do it, but I would rather do that for two hours then anything else.
You might ask how can somebody who is blind can get a thrill from cinema when they can not see it as well?
Well, the answer: There is modern technology. I still get the same feeling I got when I could see more of what the actors were wearing or doing on the screen. I still love that feeling you get when the lights go down. It’s…
