Virginity — What Does That Mean Today?
I will be exploring the concept of what being a virgin means by touching on today and looking back on personal experience
Virginity — or being a virgin — is a strange concept. What actually does it mean?
If a definition had to be assigned to the word ‘virgin,’ in the context of sex, it would be used to describe someone who has never had intercourse.
Although this explanation seems outmoded, as does the definition of intercourse itself:
The act carried out for procreation or for pleasure in which, typically, the insertion of the male’s erect penis into the female’s vagina.
Both virginity and intercourse are usually only discussed in hetero-normative terms.
Surely, with an increasing number of people identifying as LGBTQ, it must be time to redefine or at least offer an alternative to some of these words?
However, as this is a personal story, I will look at the concept of being a virgin through my own eyes.
