This was a question that I answered on Quora. Obviously, my answer was “playing football in the mud!” Clearly, that is not what the questioner was after.
But the question did get me to thinking about all the clichéd pornographic writing out there. Where you ask? All over the internet, including on this platform.
When I was in my 20s the main source to read about various people’s sexual adventures and/or fantasies was in the Penthouse Forum. For those of you who may be too young to know, Penthouse was a “Men’s magazine” run by a slimier version of Hugh Hefner.
One of the things that Bob Guccione was famous or notorious for was filming badly lit pornographic scenes and editing them into the movie Caligula starring Malcolm McDowell, Peter O’Toole and Helen Mirren.
The production qualities of the scenes shot by Tinto Brass are not bad. The ones shot by Guccione are atrocious.
A popular activity in the 80s for young people such as myself and others was to read the letters to Penthouse. Then try to guess based on their content and the descriptions of sexual acts presented which ones might be real and which ones were fantasies that people had made up.
