Welcome to my new blog Church Outreach. This is a new blog created to draw attention to the ministry efforts of Christian churches in the Charlotte-Matthews area.

This blog hopes to explore the ministries of churches in the Matthews area and explore churches that have created programs specifically geared to help the community with issues such as homelessness, hospitalization, poverty and mental health.

In addition to church originated programs, some churches also collaborate with organizations like Urban Ministry Center to collect donations and volunteer.

Matthew’s Problem

As in any other community, there are people in the Charlotte-Matthews area who need assistance in all areas of life. People are struggling financially, physically and emotionally not only in Matthews but in the Charlotte area as a whole.

Out of the 50 states, North Carolina ranks at 36th place in the national ranking of states with the most At-Risk youth according to a July 2018 Patch.com article “Here’s How NC Ranks in Number of At-Risk Youth”. Some of the elements the article reports that the study took into consideration were issues such as mental health issues, poverty, homelessness and drug use.

Patch writes that “If not addressed, those conditions can affect young people later in life, as well as society as a whole, according to the study.”

The same article reports one in nine youth in the nation between the ages 16 and 24 are unemployed and are not currently pursuing education.

Similar issues are visible in the Charlotte community. In May 2018 WSOCTV.com reports in the article “Thousands of Children in Charlotte are Homeless,” that in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system over 4,000 children come from homeless families partially because of low income.

The WSOCTV.com article mentions the programs of certain schools and libraries that help these children during summer break when students’ parents are working.

Which brings up the question, how exactly are churches helping with societal issues in the community and how can people get involved?

This is one question this blog will seek to answer over the next few months by examining different church ministry programs in the area.

What To Expect In The Future

People outside of these church congregations might not be aware of the various mission programs and ministries available in each church. This blog hopes to put a spotlight on these churches and help readers become informed of ministries available.

Despite the theme, this blog will not focus on promoting any outreach program. I hope to represent all these outreach programs equally and let the reader decide if they want to help these programs on their own.

While I won’t promote the programs, many posts will provide details concerning these ministries if anyone is interested in them.

It is my hope to help readers understand how they can contribute to existing efforts to help the community while also drawing attention to those who are currently involved in church-based charitable programs.

This blog seeks to help readers become more informed on mission opportunities and help individuals who desire to help the community understand different opportunities available.

I look forward to posting these next few months and I welcome any feedback readers have on these posts.
