Two dads and two daughters attempt a road trip from Minnesota to D.C. in an electric car

We are now just a few days away from our trip to Washington D.C. to attend the Citizen’s Climate Lobby Conference and Lobby Day. Our blog has been featured, much to our excitement, on CleanTechnica , the world’s top cleantech site. Assuming all goes as planned, it is hard to believe we are going to be in D.C. this coming weekend.

Aryanna and Elena are almost done with school, and they are eagerly getting ready for the trip. They have been thinking about what to say to our elected officials in the short time we have to deliver our messages during the Lobby Day meetings. They haven’t shared their Lobby Day speeches with us yet, but we will have plenty of time to rehearse during the long drive.

Together with the girls, we are also planning a data collection project (pictured below). For every segment of the trip, Elena and Aryanna will collect several data points to enter into the spreadsheet, which will result in some interesting calculations to report upon completion of the trip.

We will have to spend about 20 hours in the car each way, so of course the girls’ packing lists include games to play on the road. We will have ipads, snacks, books, and we plan to play some classic road trip games, like the famous “license plate game.” The key question is “Will we find any of the highly coveted plates from states like Alaska or Hawaii?”

Today’s post will be our last until we depart. Starting on June 7th, we will do our best to post daily for the next 6 days until we arrive back home.
