>With the Preview launch, Google lays the foundation for better apps

>In this developer preview, Google revealed several exciting features ahead of its official event

Google has announced its first Android 11 developer preview, the next version of its Android operating system. It’s the earliest Google has made such a preview so the changes here aren’t the front-facing, but Google is making some big announcements, such as enhanced 5 G coverage, better privacy features, and new messaging interfaces.

Android 11’s most interesting features

1.Scheduled dark theme

I’m not a fan of that dark Android theme. But this has nothing to do with the platform, or its feature takes on I also often use my Android device in the night. My Kindle remains most of the time in dark mode, so I understand the attraction of the app. Android 11 is now stated to be able to schedule when your device switches to dark mode. You can either configure a custom time or switch between dark and light mode based on sunrise/sunset time in your timezone.

2.Bubbles

Reminiscent of Facebook Chat Heads, the “Bubbles” feature was meant to be part of Android 10 last year. It’s a new UI for messaging apps that lets you easily access multiple conversations anywhere through a floating bubble. At the moment, it seems only Google has its messaging app support, but the idea is that any app — such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, or Signal — can take advantage of this feature.

3.Conversations

There’s a new dialogue section of the Notification Shade to go with the bubbles that break out new messages in your area before all your emails, Instagram likes, and app updates. The idea is to make the communication part of your phone more accessible because, well, it’s a phone, and it does what it does — helping you talk to people.

4.Screen recording

To get screen recordings on Android, I had to use a third-party tool like AZ Screen Recorder; With the release of Android 11, that app may no longer be needed.

This screen recording feature briefly appeared in one of the Android 10 builds, but quickly disappeared — there is no way to know if it will disappear as soon as Android 11 rolls out. Hopefully, this time developers will release this feature, so that users can grab a video screengrab of their device to share with others.

5.Motion Sensation Tips

This feature will be on the pixel line of the device, at least initially. The feature allows you to pause/play with motion sense gestures. So while listening to music, you can signal with your device to pause or play an existing tune. This will be a meeting if you need to constantly interrupt your music to communicate with a real person.

Small tweaks and changes:

  • Automatic dark mode toggles
  • A new motion sensor signal to play or pause music for Pixel 4
  • An “Enhanced Sensitivity Sensitivity” setting for Pixel 4, to be used with screen savers
  • The option to pin apps to the top of the share sheet has returned to Android 10 Beta.
  • Turning on airplane mode no longer disconnects Bluetooth Bluetooth audio connections.
  • XDA developers report that there is also a hidden new screenshot UI, but it is not enabled by default (or fully functional).

6.Revamped Power Menu:

Android 11 features a brutally revamped power menu that gives you quick access to smart home controls, your Google Wallet cards, and (apparently) power options.
Revamped Overview Menu, Screen Shot Shortcuts: In Android 11 Developer Preview 3, Google has revamped the Overview menu (recent apps screen) to show two new screenshot shortcuts along with big cards. However, it also removes the authorization to view the App Drawing from the Overview menu.

7.New Text Selection Mode in the Overview Menu:

In the fourth Android 11 Developer Preview, Google has added the “Select” button to the Overview menu. Pressing it will quickly select the text in the app and paste it into another application.

8. Media players now go to Quick Settings:

If you’re listening to music on your phone, you’re accustomed to finding a media player in the shadow of your notification. In Android 11, the player goes into the Quick Settings area and gains a few more tools, including the ability to easily select the output device. However, even in the first beta, this feature is switched off in development options.
9. Deactivating recently cleared apps: Speaking of the revamped overview menu, you can now undo an app that was accidentally cleared by swiping quickly on the screen.

11.More granular rear gesture tweaking:

The back gesture can be a little frustrating at times, as you’ve made a similar gesture to activate hamburger menus. Fortunately, Android 11 has two sliders that allow you to control the sensitivity of the gesture — one on the left and right on the screen. This is a welcome change from the single sensitivity slider on Android 10.

12. Pixel Themes get clock adjustments:

In the Pixel Theming section of the settings, you can customize how your clock looks on the AOD and lock screen. However, in the first beta, only one clock option is available.

13.Improved Notification Shadow Conversations:

When you receive text, you can see a recent message in the New Conversations tab in your notification shadow. You’ll be able to see more threads, but you also have rich ways to compose messages, including the way to send image messages from a notification. Notifications appear to be very organized thanks to the restoration of how they look.

14.Upgraded voice access capabilities:

Previously, Android’s Voice Access screen labeled all the actions on the screen with a number, allowing you to call the number to perform the action. Now, Android 11 can read what’s on your screen and allows you to specify the action instead, which is a good access upgrade.

There are many other changes that are more straightforward, such as folding, waterfall, and pinhole display, 5G integration, scoped storage, improved privacy and security, and more. We will continue to update this post as more hidden features are discovered in Android 11 in the coming days.

But remember: The current Android 11 Developer Beta is a much older version of what we’re going to get later this year, so don’t exceed your aspirations for any great new characteristics or big new designs-Google has much more to expect something to happen in may
