Broadcast Messaging: Why Aren’t We Using It?

Even though every one of your friends, customers, patients, beneficiaries, and colleagues is walking around with a mobile phone in their pocket, does YOUR organization use broadcast texting to reach them? Once you’re in, you can easily enter or import lists of text messages, and lists of contacts, and then specify when you want the messages to go out, and to whom. Free Magpi users can send out timed broadcast text messages, and paid Magpi subscribers can also send out audio messages. Audio messages go out as phone calls, and when the recipient picks up the phone Magpi plays or reads the message.
And for all of this, and especially basic text messages, it’s impossibly cheap. Here’s an example: suppose you have 1000 field personnel, and you want to send them a text message every Friday morning to remind them to submit their weekly report. Over a year, that would be 1000 x 52 text messages = 52,000 text messages. For most locations on Earth, a Magpi text message costs only 1–2 US cents, so over a year your system would cost only about $1000! And you won’t need to meet with the carriers, either: we take care of all that behind the scenes.
And that’s not $1000 plus setup costs, or $1000 plus consultant’s fees, or $1000 plus paying a programmer. Nope: you could set up a system like this in under an hour without any help and run it for a year for a thousand bucks.
That’s Not All
Of course, there are many more things you can do with Magpi and messaging: you can collect data by SMS, for example. Or you could send out recorded audio messages in any language.
