Move Aside Social Media, Messaging Apps Are Taking Over

DAYONE — A new perspective.

The inevitable shift from social media has been a long time coming. The market is too saturated, the parents are on it, marketers ruined it, and it’s time for bigger and better things.

Let’s be honest for a second. There is no one to blame for the downfall of social media, but us. Our inability to fork over a few dollars every so often led platforms to bury us in ads to make a profit.

While the change may disappoint some, I am excited about it. Social media has become a game where you’re the rat; the social media platforms dangle cheese in front of your face, and then whether you like it or not — they shove it down your throat. The change is long overdue.

The Changing Of The Guards

This ‘changing of the guards’ so to speak isn’t currently happening, but rather it has already occurred. Messaging apps have surpassed social media in nearly every metric.

Facebook recognizes the shift, which is why they developed Facebook Messenger as a standalone app. The rise in messaging apps also led Facebook to their acquisition of the largest messaging app in the world — WhatsApp.

Instagram also realized they need to adapt to the messaging craze, so they recently released a Snapchat ripoff they call ‘Instagram Stories.’ (Facebook has also done the same with ‘Flash.’)

With people flocking to apps like WhatsApp, Snapchat, Instagram Stories, and more it isn’t hard to see what is going on.

Open You Eyes

If you look at what the kids are doing, you will see into the future. If something catches on with them, society as a whole usually isn’t too far behind.

Well, the word is out, and the kids LOVE Snapchat! It has caught on and spread like wildfire. The youth are using it in a cult-like fashion, and it is everything it’s cracked up to be.

Snapchat is dominating for many reasons, but here are just a few:
- Geofilters are the bomb
- Messages disappear
- Marketers are afraid to use it
- It is super customizable
- The effects are hilarious
- Much more!

Snapchat is just one of the many messaging apps taking the world by storm.

What To Expect

Messaging apps have taken over and rule supreme now. So what?

You can expect to see people trying to adapt become an how they become increasingly overwhelmed by the shift. It is easy for people under 40, but the older generation struggle.

Messaging isn’t the easiest skill to pick up on for some people. It is an entirely new way to communicate, and it takes some adjustments. For the older generation, it can seem like an entirely new language.

The change has happened, and messaging apps are the future. We just need to accept it and wait for parents and marketers to ruin it inevitably.

What I am trying to do is develop an easier way for people to adapt to messaging platforms by creating an all-in-one messaging app. This messaging app will take all the existing messaging apps and bring it into one central location.

I have called this app UNUM messenger, and it is in the early stages of development. If you would like to be notified when we launch UNUM messenger, you can do so here.
