Mobile reputation: collaborative consumption and sharing economy

As a team we had to observe how a start-up works. Depending on that, we decided to make an observation on a greek start-up, named Gigalize.

In general, start-ups are the most representative form of collaborative consumption and sharing economy, which is an economic system that its assets or services are shared between private individuals either for free or a fee typically by means of the Internet (Oxford dictionary).

Gigalize is a social platform that allows users to create campaigns and bring their favorite artists in town. If the campaign is successfull enough, the people behind the start-up communicate with the artists and the producers to make the gig happen. In addition, Gigalize pro is a feature that helps the artists lounge their own campaign and perform lives in more cities, not only in Greece but also abroad.

Our research on the way that Gigalize works as a start-up, gave us some important findings about the usage of mobile services between the workers. In particular, they use mobile applications that help them to organize their work. The applications are:

  • Slack: a mobile application for direct communication, this app us used for real-time messaging and through the application a discussion is being held among the members, problems are being solved right away and finally they are able to consulate for work issues while being home or away from the office and all that via mobile
  • Google calendar: arrangement of dates
  • Moosend: particular application whereby newsletters are sent to users
  • Trello: an online chart where each member puts out the schedule and lays down responsibilities
  • Skype: many appointments with potential investors are held via this application
  • Dropbox: online photo transfer is allowed as well as Gigalize’s logo. Documents or presentations transfer likewise
  • An application-leveled software has not been fully developed yet. One is under construction the very moment.

Although the difficulties that Gigalize faces on the music production industry because of its huge power and its strict structure, this start-up has pioneered but without external funds, it is hard to evolve and establish itself.

One way or another, Gigalize is the only one platform that offers a peer-to-peer connection between the fans and the artists.
