In the context of our course “New consumer trends” — “Mobile reputations” taught by Mrs.Betty Tsakarestou we were asked to participate on a project called “Mobile Me & You”, which aim was to examine the use of mobile phones by millennials. The project started with each and every one of the students analyzing their personal use. After that and right before the beginning of the final part (survey), every team interviewed some of their friends (locally and internationally), in order to find out more about how they use their mobile phones. In this part you are going to read about the second step, that we took.

Korina Simeonidou, Liana Kollia and I took an interview from tow of our friends, in order to meet the needs of this part of our project. Both of them have gained academic knowledge and they use their mobile phone daily on a grade degree.

Let’s start with Natalia. Every morning after she activates her walking tracker app, she checks her Gmail, Messenger and Viber to see if she has received any new message. Once she catch up with her people, she goes on Instagram to catch up with the world. She spends some time scrolling up and down or uploading pictures of her own. As she admitted Instagram is her favorite social media app. Furthermore, everyday she uses the OASA telematics application, in order to see what time her bus arrives and just to be more functional, which isn’t so easy in Athens due to heavy traffic. She added that YouTube is also on top of her list. She finds great the fact, that she can watch so many videos from her phone, when she lays on bed or when she is out of the house. According to her is very useful and fun. Also, she uses some photo editing apps, in order to make her photos more interesting or more easy on her eyes. Almost daily she uses some apps like Visco and Snapseed, in order to change the tone or the lights. As she admitted, most probably she uses Snapseed more, because it helps her edit her Instagram stories. Also, she told us that she use her mobile phone, in order to train thanks to some apps like Keep and Keep Yoga. She is really busy daily, so she has to workout at her home and these apps help her do just that. They provide her a variety of programs and workouts and she uses two different apps, because she doesn’t want to be bored with a specific style of training. Last but not least is her social interest. As she told us she uses tones of social media to communicate with her friends and also to be in touch with the world. As she admitted even though she prefers face to face contact having the opportunity to talk to someone at any minute of any day is something comforting in a busy schedule. She uses Instagram, Face Book, Messenger, Viber and WhatsApp. “I can do so many things with these platforms and I hope I use them for the better”.

Now let’s continue with Thodoris. His day starts with Instagram. The fist thing he does is to check his homepage, his messages and the stories he has uploaded. He also uses Mesenger to chat with his friends and when it is possible he prefers calling them through the internet to learn about their news. During the day he scrolls on Face Book, in order to see the latest posts of my friends, while next I check my emails. He keeps track of West side concerning job applications Indeed, Kariera.gr and the latest new about the municipality of my region. He also uses often google maps to move around in Thessaloniki and the OASTH bus application to be informed about the routes. He has also downloaded the Whats’up application, so he can easily reload his mobile account and check the offers. Finally he uses YouTube, in order to listen to music of his preference and every night he sets the alarm clock for the next morning.
