Mobile Me & You Project (Gaming Community)|“New Consumer Trends”- “Mobile Reputations” course | Panteion university

Hello there! In the framework of the course “New Consumers Trends — Mobile Reputations”, led by our professor Betty Tsakarestou, us, students of Panteion University, are about to demonstrate a project based on a survey we conducted; we were challenged to discover how Millennials use their mobile phone on a daily basis and more specifically, focus on the section of mobile gaming and its community.

It is sign of the times that Millennials have the tendency of highly using their mobile phones, not only as tools, but also as means of communication and entertainment. It was quite amusing for us to found out that this particular generation is keen on what we call sharing economy. Id est, Millennials love to share things of their personal lives and themselves with friends and chosen communities, basically because they like to feel part of a group which is simultaneously fun and provides them with the needed safety net. Those facts are certain, since it took some time to research and conclude.

To begin with, we asked ourselves of what impact mobile phones have on our daily lives and how we use them. Then, we observed and asked our friends so as to get more information of the cellphone use by people belonging to Generation Y and, in the end, we broaden the survey by interviewing girls from abroad to find the similarities and the differences and to reach to certain conclusions and insights. We even cooperate with our fellow students to compare our findings and see whether or not the characteristics found are established facts.

The most fascinating section of cell phones for us is gaming. Gaming, in general, can be a world of great interest. We had the chance to discover some innovations that take place at that field, like the Games for Change Festivals that are being organized every year since 2005. We were amazed by the fact that game creators and social innovators drive real world change by using games and technology and they contribute into making the world a better place. In addition, gamers are a community that has been around for many years, as people played video games on computers or Play Stations long before smartphones come to life. We were motivated into following this subject because we were interested to see if gamers managed to adjust to the new era of high-tech portable gadgets and if mobile gaming is qualified enough to be called part of the gaming community; What’s are the pros and cons of mobile gaming and many other questions motivated us to resort to our circle of friends, find gamers and ask them about their point of view. We found out that gamers are people who use their phones often to facilitate their lives in general, not just to play games, but gaming manages to play a very significant role in their use of mobiles. There were some very interesting results coming from this research, which, in conclusion, were collated with findings from other surveys that pertain to the global picture.

In our next sections you will find the beginning of our research and the steps that were made. We tried to describe accurately a day with their mobile phone through storytelling. In some interviews we don’t mention their last names due to anonymity reasons. At last you will see some qualitative conclusions about the relationship Millennials have with their phone and their beliefs about mobile gaming. We also got informed about what global consumer trends have to say on the matter.
