More and more trends overwhelm our contemporary world. In the purposes of our course ‘’Mobile Reputations’’, we, as students of AD&PR Lab of Panteion University , run a survey in order to investigate the usage that the Millennials do in their self phones. Specifically we choose to focus on streaming platforms by interviewing 10 persons in order to meet the needs of our project. In this section we will focus on two Millennials, Nota and George.

Nota is a 29-year-old millennial. She’s a musician as well as a handmade jewelry designer. Her mobile phone is a must in her daily routine. She uses it to communicate on Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and Viber. She also uses YouTube and Netflix for entertainment, Safari for information, and facetune for photo editing

Nota says, “I would feel half a person without my mobile phone, mostly because of my photos!”. They are a big part of her life because they are her special moments and personal diary. The pieces of jewelry that she makes are advertised on her Facebook account and on Instagram as they are a main part of her personality.

She doesn’t use her phone to schedule her day nor does she use any complementary gadgets. She mainly uses her phone while with friends to communicate and for pleasure. Moreover, Nota likes to share photos, videos, articles and songs via Messenger, Viber, WhatsApp, and Instagram.
She also follows Chiarra Feragni, Dua Lipa and Gigi Hadid on Instagram. She believes that influencers have nothing of substance to offer her.

When planning holidays, she uses Airbnb as it is a trustworthy site and while on holiday, especially abroad, she uses Google maps to get around and Foursquare to choose where to have a coffee as well as where to eat. As far as shopping is concerned, Nota does online purchases from her apps Assos and Hollister and she does online banking, mainly for her bills.

She is of the belief that her mobile phone habits are similar to those of her friends but they use their phone less than she does. Nota admits that she has made attempts to use her mobile phone less but it is impossible. She claims to spend 4 to 5 hours on her phone daily.

The streaming apps she uses are Netflix, YouTube and skaitv.gr. Netflix and YouTube are mainly used as she enjoys watching films and music video clips. She spends about three hours on these platforms.

Our second millennial is George. He is is 30 years old and holds a degree in Administration and Economics. However he is currently unemployed as he does seasonal work in merchandise.

George starts the day having his morning coffee while playing games on his mobile phone and checking out his Instagram account. He’s hooked only games helix jump and empires. Regarding Instagram, he has two supplementary apps one is called Unfollow and the other follow analyzer. This morning ritual lasts about an hour and a half. At lunchtime, he claims to spend about two hours on Netflix catching up on the latest films.

During the course of the day, he also uses Viber and WhatsApp to communicate with friends and of course YouTube as he has become obsessed with YouTubers.

Concerning his relationship with his phone, George says “if my phone was taken away from me, I would feel as if I had lost my house keys and couldn’t get inside the house”.He uses the apps Ryanair and Transavia To book tickets as he enjoys traveling when he’s not working. He also uses Airbnb for holidays as he trusts and believes this to be a dependable site judging from the comments of the guests and the owners. He doesn’t use complementary gadgets nor does he use it for work. He uses no other device apart from his mobile phone.

He likes sharing photos, articles, videos and songs with family and friends via Viber,WhatsApp and Instagram. When he is socializing in person with friends he does not use his mobile phone unless he’s really bored. He prefers to use it when he’s alone. In short, he enjoys the company of friends and family, but when they are not around he keeps in touch with them on social media.

Regarding influencers, George is of the opinion that it’s a new trend that might improve in the future but it’s not his cup of tea. He has some influencers on Instagram but he wouldn’t follow them if they didn’t follow him back. George does some shopping online, mostly from ASOS and pays his bills on his Eurobank app.

As for streaming platforms, he uses YouTube for Music and Netflix, mainly for movies and TV series. He feels that the basic uses of his mobile phone are pretty much the same as those of his friends except that he spends more time on his phone than they do — especially when he’s not working. So, on average he’s on his phone 4–5 hours daily.

Once again, we would like to thank Nota and George for their feedback on the way they use their mobile phones. Stay tuned for part three as we continue with another millennial.
