Our second interview for the Mobile Reputations, Collaborative Consumption in Sharing Economy course of Mrs. Betty Tsakarestou, was with another photographer, Stelios.

Stelios is 20 years old, he is a Leica student and a part-time photographer. He uses his phone 5 hours per day and his most used apps are Instagram -first thing in the morning- YouTube and Safari.

If we took his phone away from him, he would only feel disconnected from the world. If he could find another way of communication, he would be just fine…for one day. He couldn’t live permanently without it mainly because of his job His phone does not help him as a personal assistant at all (only for e-mails and alarm).

When it comes to his work and university, he uses his phone just to communicate and to be up to date, find seminars and events. As a transportation tool, he only uses Google maps.

He uses his phone in a much different way than any other device (ex. computer), he cannot compare them. He uses his phone to connect and his computer to edit and send his photos. He uses the Nikon app to send photos more rapidly.

His posts are strictly professional, to promote his work. He uses his Instagram profile as his online portfolio BUT not as his main portfolio. He uploads stories on a daily basis.

“Facebook is dead.”

He sees Instagram itself as a community but he doesn’t want to belong in a more specific one. He wants to do his own thing when it comes to editorial fashion photography.

He has only used Airbnb, but not any other sharing services platform. He does not follow any influencers. He sees it as a job and he would never do it. He has bought stuff online but only via the official page (photography equipment n clothes). He pays nothing using his phone. BUT he has paid for VSCO. All of his friends use their phones approximately the same amount of time but they have different social media habits. He believes that millennials are addicted to their phones. The younger the more.

Photography-wise, he believes that the main editing app right now is VSCO, although Stelios prefers editing his photos on his computer, using Photoshop or Lightroom. VSCO is easy, fast and it can meet any need and taste when it comes to aesthetic. He uses his phone’s camera only if he doesn’t have his DSLR with him. No picture is the same without editing it. It’s all about aesthetics. No app can teach people how to edit. They might get everything wrong. They must learn how to shoot first.
