Booty dial would never be the same

THIS DAY, in 2005, Apple filed for the, ‘slide to unlock’, patent was filed. This iconic gesture would be the way every iPhone and iPad session would begin until iOS 10 was released. It wasn’t called, ‘slide to unlock’, back then however. Nay. It was called:

“Apparatus and method for preventing inadvertent operation of a manual input device,”

Of course, Apparatus and method for preventing inadvertent operation of a manual input device wouldn’t fit on the iPhone screen, so “slide to unlock” was born.

Looking for a nostalgic blast from the past?
