One of the most prominent online chatting apps WhatsApp owned by Facebook recently released its version 2.20.196.8 beta for Android. The new version is induced with a code for the heavily rumored multiple device feature. Several screenshots of the feature have been circulated which shows the user interface (UI) for the multiple device feature which is named ‘Linked Devices’ in the screenshots.

Talking about the new feature, it will allow the users to log in to multiple devices hassle-free and there will be no need to log out from the previous device. This would also help users to retain their WhatsApp group and individual chats even without the need for backup.

The feature is still in its final stage. However, at the time of the launch, WhatsApp has stated that the users have to sign into four different devices to sync at once, and this feature will be accessible through the three dots icon on the top-right corner of the application.

According to a report released earlier, WABetaInfo claimed that WhatsApp would require a Wi-Fi connection to initiate the multiple device support. With this, the user can share data from one device to the other easily. Once the data has been shared, the cellular Wi-Fi connection won’t be required for the primary device.

Previously, if you had to use your WhatsApp account simultaneously on two devices, the ‘Whatsapp Web’ option was the only means. Below are the steps involved to connect your WhatsApp account on the other device via “Whatsapp Web”,

• Open a web browser on your PC or laptop. Like Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera, etc.
• Visit web.whatsapp.com on the browser.
• Now open WhatsApp on your phone and tap on the three dots on the top-right of the screen and select WhatsApp web.
• Scan QR code that shows up on the web page by placing your phone in front of the PC screen via the WhatsApp Web QR code scanner.
• That’s it! Once you scanned the QR code, your Whatsapp account will be reflected on your PC or laptop screen.

Since its inception in 2009, WhatsApp has come up with many fascinating updates. When it was launched, it was an app of its kind as there were no other applications available in the market for online texting and sharing multimedia messages with ease.

The transformation in the WhatsApp messaging took place with its breathtaking update of making video and audio calls over a cellular or Wi-Fi network. The need to introduce this feature arises due to the tough competition it was getting in this facet by the likes of Skype, Viber, Line, etc.

Features currently available on WhatsApp

Being at the top of the pile also brings in hefty responsibilities. WhatsApp has been at the prime of its game ever since it got into existence. However, to maintain this supremacy, one has to agile and quick in resolving bugs and other issues, and there’s no doubt WhatsApp has been complacent on this part. Below are the current features WhatsApp is giving to its users.

• Offers to text and calling (both audio and video over the internet)
• Multimedia messages (images, videos, audios) could be shared
• Group chat
• WhatsApp Web that lets your receive and send a message via your computer or laptop
• No charges on International calls
• No botheration of username or password
• Saves offline messages even if your internet connection is lost

These are the basic features WhatsApp offers that cover all the necessary chores of users which they tend to do regularly. There are two new updates WhatsApp has announced recently on its Android platform which are,

• Group calls now support picture-in-picture mode for easier multi-tasking.
• The attachment menu has been updated to include refreshed icons and add back the camera shortcut.

When is the Linked Devices feature expected to roll out?
The feature is expected to be in the last stage of its development. However, if you have the latest beta version of the app installed on your smartphone, you won’t be able to use this feature. As of now, there is no date finalized for the launch, however, one could expect it roll out in the market in a month or two.

Conclusion:

The latest feature of WhatsApp is perhaps their best offerings in recent times. Having a single account run simultaneously on two different devices is a scintillating approach the Facebook-owned application has opted for. However, it would remain interesting to see what feedback the users would be given once the feature rolls out.
