Hi folks! During the first two days of August, eleven teams from the mobile stream of The Rolling Scopes school participated in Hackathon related to mobile development.
In this article, I am going to review the results and of course, announce the winners!

But first and foremost, I want to thank the MobilePeople community for the support and all participants of this event for incredible networking and productivity!

Besides, I’d like to add a few words about hackathon participants. In February we have started free and open for everyone Android and iOS courses for CIS countries at our school, and after 6 months of hard learning and working with mentors, our students were ready to take this hackathon challenge! And I think that the results are more than great, especially taking into account that the majority of students hadn’t had any experience in software development before our courses.

So, let’s see the results!

3. Mevis — app for an international swimming school

Mevis App

The 3rd place takes an application for the swimming school Mevis. It was hard to integrate bad documented third-party API, but the team coped with it and now we have iOS and Android apps for money balance and schedule management.
There are a lot of plans for improvements like in-app payments and chat with the administration.

Keep it up and you’ll end up a great success!

2. Drinder — Tinder for those who are looking for drinking companions

Drinder App

And the second-place winner — Drinder. It’s an entirely new social network for people who are looking for the company. Nice app to find new friends with the same drinking preferences, especially if you are far away from home. For now, you can search users for the same preferred alcohol types but in the future, the team is going to add interests section and extend search algorithms.

For the two days team developed Java server and native iOS/Android apps with the same functionality. App has registration form, settings, and map where other users can get in touch! Nice work!

  1. AeroPlan — One minute and your travel budget is ready
AeroPlan — The main screen

AeroPlan is our winner! Congrats on the first place! And the most exciting thing that the whole app was developed by the team consisted of one person!
It shows again that everything is possible. Even if you are alone that doesn’t mean that you are not able to win the hackathon, because all you need is an idea and a couple of free days.

The main idea of the application is to help anyone with planning the cost of your trip in less than a minute! The AeroPlan uses several public API’s to get the approximate cost of living (e.g flight cost, housing, food, entertainment, transport) and calculates total price in seconds! Nice for two days of work!
The nearest plans are to integrate more services like car rental and add more trip settings.

The AeroPlan — Trip configuration screen

We wish AeroPlan to fast takeoff and soft landing!

These were our winners, but let’s review other apps:

Alcoholator/Alcometer — are you completely sober?

Cool app for checking alcohol level in your blood according to your age, weight, sex, and amount of alcohol you have taken. Under the hood, the app uses the same formula as a forensic scientist’s use. By the way, developers have to think about cooperation with Drinder team 😁
Waiting for it to appear in the Google Play and AppStore!

English Quiz — nice quiz for learning new words

It’s not an extraordinary idea, but both Android and iOS implementations are well done!

Covid-19 — Get actual information about COVID situation

Not much to say, Covid-19 is a really popular and highly discussed topic nowadays, so here is the Android app with a classic design.

Who? — It’s always interesting who is better

Yep, it’s an app for public voting. The team did a great job and released both iOS and Android apps written in Swift and Kotlin. Hmm… Swift vs Kotlin wish I knew the results 🤔

WordStack — put your thoughts on the stack

These Android and iOS apps allow creating the stack in order to add new topics or thoughts that come to your mind during such events as discussions, podcasts, or conferences. Each stack has a unique id and can be changed by any invited user.

FitnessTracker

For now, it just tracks your rote but the team has some ideas, so let’s wait for a while

Just Reminder

Simple and easy to use app with material design and the only function — remind anything you want.

SubscriptionManager

Every day we have more and more subscriptions and this app aims to help you with the management. So, waiting for integration with popular services.

Now you know how eleven teams spent the first two days of August in 2020 and it was gorgeous! I want to thank every single participant for the million brilliant ideas and positive vibes!
