When we first started looking into robotics, we were wondering about its history. After all, this relatively new field of technology didn’t just fall off the wagon (no pun intended). So, we came up with a rather bold hypothesis: it was the automotive industry that sparked robotics development in the early twentieth century!

A revolution — sparked by cars

The way we get around these days is merely only a product of robotics and advances in the field. However, robots played an important role in enabling today’s mobility options. Automotive companies were relying on industrial robots early on to automate their factories, cut costs and lift their quality standards. Consequentially, cars became more affordable, turning them into prime mobility options for many households. Fast forward a few decades, and robo-taxis or autonomous drones are two prominent examples of robotics at the center of how we imagine tomorrow’s mobility landscape.

With such a strong link between mobility, logistics and robotics, it is due time to take a closer look at the two spaces and how they overlap, intersect and connect. Read below a brief…
