Democrats need to mobilize, organize and win

Since the 2016 election, millions of Americans have stood up, marched and made their voices heard. This explosion of energy has been inspiring and exciting. Still, Republicans continue to dominate every level of government. This decisive control allows them to pass regressive policies and unfairly draw district lines in their favor.

Decades of Republican gerrymandering have created a system in which a fraction of votes can and do dramatically and adversely impact the lives of many Americans. They disproportionately silence those who have struggled for decades to have a voice in our politics — young people, immigrants, and people of color — while systematically empowering the GOP’s ideological fringe.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump attempts to ban entire religious groups from our country, unceremoniously dismisses thousands of active duty service-members and flirts with nuclear war through ill-conceived tweets and comments. Republican majorities in Congress threaten the healthcare of tens of millions of Americans and legislatures across the country chip away at voting and reproductive rights.

In the face of this challenge, Democrats have an important story to tell and life saving policies to enact. We’re the party that puts people first. We need to elect a new generation of leaders who will fight for a strong economy, defend healthcare, protect the universal right to vote and stand up for the rights of all Americans — regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation or country of origin.

The most powerful way to elect Democrats at every level is by empowering ordinary people to talk directly to voters, encouraging them to support great candidates.

That’s why we’re partnering with the DNC, the Democratic Party of Virginia, and many of the new groups that have formed since the election, including Flippable, Daily Action, Pantsuit Nation, Wall-of-Us and grassroots groups across the country. We’re using technology to reach voters and volunteers in new and impactful ways. We’re working with influencers and entertainers like Funny or Die and Will Butler of Arcade Fire to make organizing accessible, impactful, and fun.

In 60 days, the critical battleground state of Virginia is holding a General Election for the House of Delegates, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General. MobilizeAmerica is providing critical support to the most competitive House of Delegates races and to the statewide Coordinated Campaign. These inspiring candidates are mothers, fathers, doctors, musicians, public defenders, veterans and business leaders. Many are first time candidates. All need our help.

Many voters aren’t aware of their local state legislative candidates running for office. And they have amazing stories! Take Danica Roem, a former reporter who if elected this November will be the first transgender state legislator in the country. There’s Kathy Tran, the daughter of a Vietnamese refugee and former Department of Labor public servant. And Elizabeth Guzman, a working mother who, if elected, will be the first Latina in the Virginia House of Delegates. The list goes on and on.
