The most constant thing in UX design
M Cobanli, the founder of OMC Design Studios, said; “Great design is the iteration of good design”.
The most constant thing in UX design is iteration. Iteration is a process where things are constantly changing, mostly for good. Design iteration in UX is a process in which an idea is thought, tested, designed, tested, and developed and tested again to bring the best of it for users. The constant iteration eliminates the idea’s, design’s flaws, or usability flaws depending on the stage of the product development.
UX is the field where the designs or products are meant for an experience, an experience that can be quantified or qualified. Through user research or user testing, the design is tested again and again in this iteration process to mold in the best product.
One of the main reasons of iteration is that the designer remembers that the design is not for him but for the user. A design may start from a raw paper and pen design to high fidelity mockup and that's the result of the iteration process. User interviews, and user testing along the way are the keys to the design success. User testing brings relevant insights and shapes up the product.
I grew up listening “Practice makes a man perfect” and a story my parents used to tell me regarding that. And, now for the design I compare the iteration process to that story. Most of the time, no one gets it right for the first time. It may need multiple attempts to get it right or close to perfect. A design can accommodate changes any time even after it is launched or even after it matured. However, sometime the cost of iteration process could be huge depending on the stage of the product or the change of the product. So, sooner is better.
Even companies like Google, Amazon has been continuously iterating their products to bring effective and efficient user experience.
As the user needs are drastically changing, iteration becomes essential for the products or services to be successful. Companies have to keep pace with the changes by iterating their product with a better and seamless experience by bringing constant feedbacks from the users.
