Volunteers at MOD. will be important to our success as they will be the first point-of-call for visitors. Volunteers enhance the experience of exhibitions and events by welcoming visitors, helping to interpret exhibitions and answering questions about exhibits and underlying research.

The tasks of the volunteers include:

  • Providing customer service by welcoming visitors to MOD. and giving directions
  • Responding to general enquiries
  • Assisting Moderators to supervise galleries

Those that volunteer will gain:

  • Experience in customer service within a dynamic, exciting museum environment
  • Training and practical experience in communicating science and complex concepts to a public audience
  • Interactions with MOD. staff and volunteers from a diverse range of backgrounds
  • Invitations to special events, launches and exhibition previews
  • Discounts in the MOD.Shop and Cafe

We are seeking volunteers with the following personal attributes and experience:

  • Interest in a relevant field, including through tertiary student or other qualifications
  • Experience in customer service operations, for example in hospitality or retail
  • Experience in working in small teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to successfully network and communicate with a diverse range of people, including people from a range of cultural backgrounds
  • Analytical, problem solving and research skills

We would be pleased if volunteers fulfil at least one 3-hour shift per month. MOD. will offer a range of shift option across weekdays and weekends (note that MOD. is closed on Mondays). You will need to attend induction and training sections and be able to be mobile for the majority of the shift. Volunteers must maintain a current criminal history assessment that determines you are fit to work with children.

Volunteers reports to Operations Coordinator, MOD. and will be supervised by Moderators whilst on shifts.

To apply, please complete this form. Applications close Thursday 22 March 2018.
