Artists of MODA — Aeon Void
We’ve been working in the background for a few months on developing upcoming talent and giving them the tools to express their creativity. We’ve awarded standout creatives with a grant to fund a project they’d like to build and are investing time into their growth as they endeavor further into their careers.
Learn more about the artists venturing into the world of Music3, their journeys, stories, thoughts, and opinions. This is the Artist Grants Spotlight!
Today we meet Aeon Void, an independent Music3 artist and Web3 aficionado.
Aeon Void is an Independent Web3 artist yearning to break free from the molds of the older legacy systems. Web3 & platforms such as MODA DAO have allowed him to transcend the classic ‘product model’ to a far more authentic connection with himself & his vision and, in turn, share that perspective with like-minded people.
Void’s music is narrative-based and follows a character that travels through many timelines using a portal device that only shows itself once specific frequencies are resonant, almost like a sonic safe needing to be cracked. Battling the constant struggles of self-doubt, identity & ultimately, their place in the multiverse. The tools are the gear used to generate sound & the travel aspect is him exploring the ideas/concepts/states/ thought patterns within his own self and sharing them externally through the process of art.
Can you tell us and our followers how you first got into music?
I was fortunate enough to have parents who loved music, from my Mother playing classical music whilst being in her womb, to a childhood of live DVDs that my Father loved.. from Queen, Rod Stewart, and the Eagles .. to Robbie Williams, Michael Buble and John Mayer. John Mayer hit hard with his ‘Where the Light is’ in that middle section of the concert with the blues. It struck a chord in me like no other. I then went down the Hendrix rabbit hole shortly after, whilst taking music in school and playing guitar obsessively, going further & further back in the blues timeline, whilst figuring out how I was going to do music my whole life. I was constantly inspired by artists doing their own thing, and that naturally appealed to me heavily and still does. The likes of ‘the Gorillaz’, ‘Kid Cudi’ etc. I then heard about deadmau5 who had released ‘4x4=12’ at the time and I instantly fell in love with electronic music. After his live performance in Cape Town in 2011, I was hooked to the whole experience of a ‘real time’ electronic, technology-inspired event that delivers an experience with added depth. So I guess the ‘hooked moment’ was over a period of time, the end goal is me doing my own thing & delivering an experience we could all share in.
How have you engaged with or explored blockchain tech and NFTs?
I have been interested in blockchain tech for just under a year now and it has quite literally changed my life and continues to do so, daily. To be honest I am more interested in the back end of smart contracts and how data is stored, for instance with IPFS & how that contract interacts with the platforms/marketplaces than I do with actually purchasing NFTs themselves. I believe the power of true ownership lies in the hands of custom smart contracts for artists.
That being said, I have released on Pianity & MintSongs and will continue to do so, with the intent of exploring other avenues as I navigate the path of an Independent Web3 artist. Looking extremely forward to the integration between MODA DAO & Emanate.live, as I feel they will accompany all aspects of the greater Web3 eco-system.
In terms of straight-up NFTs I have recently become a member of the BASC (Bad Alien Social Club) on Ethereum, as I really dig the aesthetic of the PFPs, the vibe they have going in the community, along with what they have planned for their roadmap ie: Sandbox Integration, Comic Book Series and Staking.
Being a part of these communities in Web3 is exactly the reason why I am so pumped about the future of web3.
People are excited, you can feel it.
Are there any artists whose sounds have influenced you heavily?
Yeah, electronically I would say deadmau5, Daft Punk, John Hopkins, Burial, Octave One, Stephan Bodzin, Ryan Murgatroyd, Gorillaz & Hanz Zimmer.
What is your first step with the MODA artist grant?
My first step is purchasing a commercial license for TouchDesigner, in order to get full resolution along with rights to sell the visuals I make, that I will be placing within the portal, to be collected with music releases down the line as ‘Hybrid NFTs’ (audio + visual + utility).
What are your plans for the rest of 2022?
Release as much music as possible, stick to the timeline I’ve set out for myself, get involved in the Web3 space by helping lay down the blueprint for the next wave within the creator economy & just straight up enjoy my time more.
