Salesforce Spring ’21 Release is here, we picked up the top 7 new features!

It is well known that every release comes up with several new ways to improve our experience with Salesforce and it could be a bit overwhelming to try to understand everything at the beginning, for that reason as Salesforce Admins, Devs, and Architects we chose the most interesting topics for our daily tasks at Modelit. Keep reading to find the most appealing new updates, upgrades, and features.

Community Cloud is in the past

One of the first changes we would like to highlight is the Community Cloud rename, now is Experience Cloud. It’s not just a brand new name, be prepared to experiment with some changes in terminology, documentation updates, and the tools you use to build your sites.

You don’t have to worry if you are a bit absent-minded, because if you enter Community in the Quick Find box, Salesforce automatically displays the rename Digital Experiences menu instead.

More functionality with Salesforce Flow

Another rename with new upgrades; Lightning Flow, is now Salesforce Flow. Lightning Flow Builder and Lightning Process Builder are now called Flow Builder and Process Builder.

Salesforce positions Flows as a strong option to create automation by adding more functionality. There is an open door for declarative development.

Our favorite new feature is that now when a record is updated, you can access that record’s prior values in Salesforce Flow. The $Record__Prior global variable contains the record’s values immediately before the flow was run. Use these prior values to check for changes and calculate differences in your flow.

You can use the $Record__Prior global variable in record-triggered flows that are set to trigger either when the record is updated or when the record is created or updated. $Record__Prior is available in specific Flow Builder locations that read from global variables.

Welcome, Sharing button!

This button used to be available on Salesforce Classic. Salesforce heard our prayers and now you can find it in Lightning too. You can share records and manage record shares in a new streamlined interface and create more roles in your Salesforce Org.

System Namespace

We would like to highlight; the changes to the System namespace. There are new or changed methods. With these improvements, you don’t have to write SOQL queries to retrieve data stored in Custom Metadata types, saving you time.

New Lightning Components

The new changes bring new possibilities for developers. They can customize markers and control map behavior in lightning-map base component. Customize map locations to use your SVG image instead of the standard Google Maps markers, or define a shaded circle, rectangle, or polygon around a location. Modify or disable the zoom and dragging behavior, or disable the map controls altogether to create a static map.

If you want to create a simple locator map to show customers where to find your business. You can remove the zoom and Map | Satellite buttons, disable dragging, and add your own SVG to use a star for the marker.

AI-Enable your apps with image recognition and natural language processing

Now you can use the Einstein Vision and Language APIs to easily AI-enable your apps with image recognition and natural language processing.

Using the Einstein Vision APIs, you can leverage pre-trained classifiers or train custom classifiers to solve a vast array of image-recognition use cases.

Another feature is; you can send PDF files and images to the Optical Character Recognition (OCR).

Retirement of Platform API Legacy Versions

Some API versions will be retired and will no longer be supported by Salesforce, pay attention to this because otherwise, you may experiment with some problem.
