PwC accountants face death threats over Oscars fiasco
[dropcap]B[/dropcap]rian Cullinan and Martha Ruiz are said to be in ‘fear of their lives ‘ after receiving death treats after last Sunday’s Oscars mishap. They have bot
h placed security outside of their homes as an extra precaution.
Oscar attendees and viewers were left in a state of confusion and perplexity as Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty wrongly awarded Best Picture Oscar to ‘La La Land’, instead of ‘Moonlight’.
Described as possibly the “worst Academy Awards broadcasting error in history” the finger of blame is now being pointed towards PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) who have overseen the Academy’s ballot-counting process for the last 83 years.
The error went unnoticed until after several members of the Lionsgate movie had already spoken. In an official statement released by PricewaterhouseCoopers they added: “The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and, when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred.”
A PwC spokesperson said “security had been beefed up after their home addresses and photos of their families were published”.
The pair haven’t been fired over their error, but won’t be working at next year’s ceremony.
