I had the opportunity to spend time with my mother at a Mother’s Day jazz brunch. I have been taking time to listen to my mother about her life and the hardships she faced and also learning about her relationship with her mother Roberta Burns.

She told me how her mother’s love language was in actions not in words, but she yearned for social praise from her mother and vowed when she became a mother, she would express her love language physically and vocally.

I’d like to think that the relationship I have with my mother is something special and that we can talk about everything which are good and bad times. We have sat and discussed the loss of her two parents to cancer, the murder of two siblings, and the loss of my father, her husband Joe Baylor.
