PARENTING PRINCESSES
I Wasn’t Pretty Enough to Play
My appearance brought her to tears
“Ok, time to turn it off,” I said to my three-year-old daughter as I reached for the large dice.
She didn’t respond.
I looked up from the Snakes and Ladders board game I had laid out on the living room floor to see her nose hovering inches from the TV screen.
“Sweetie, turn it off now, please.”
“No. I need to watch,” she said without moving her eyes from the screen.
I need to start pre-gaming Aspirin.
“That’s not what we agreed on. I said you could watch Cinderella go to the ball. She’s home now so it’s time to turn it off,” I replied sternly.
“No.” She said firmly, still not turning to look at me.
Watch it, Kid. I’m getting real close to cutting the power and hiding in the ladle drawer.
“If you don’t switch it off, you won’t get to play Snakes and Ladders.”
“Good,” she whispered.
Well, shit.
I’m starting to get really concerned you won’t like Monopoly. I only had you so that I could bankrupt you when you landed on Mayfair.
