Lil Yachty + jazz rap =?

Source:

Since last year, Lil Yachty has been on the run, most likely cracking his most prominent year. Coming from his yet most creative work ‘Let’s Start Here’ to being featured on the Drake album, Yachty was dominating. His recent output felt like a breath of fresh air, with a feeling of being exceptional and surprising.

“A Cold Sunday” marks Yachty’s first solo drop of 2024, potentially serving as the follow-up to his new project.

On the new track, the rapper deviates from the psychedelic sound of his previous LP. Rather, he blends the genre of jazz rap with a mix of rock-inspired instrumentals. As a result, Aris Tatalovic’s production and Yachty’s execution make the song sound sweeter than a winter treat.

I’m a huge fan of his rapping abilities on this one. In one of his latest efforts, “The Secret Recipe” with J. Cole, he proved himself in that lane, and now he is getting back to it. Lil Boat feels comfortable in the abstract hip-hop path and continues to surprise his audience. An old type of rap jazz sample makes the track sound even crispier and softer. The light rawness and extravagance of Yachty’s voice at ease complement the beat, making it sound organic.
