The Underachievers are back with new music. With AKTHESAVIOR going on a run of solo and collaborative projects and getting deeper into his painting bag and Issa Gold somewhat putting music on the back burner, it’s been awhile since we heard a song from the duo. This track, “Megatron” is the first single from their upcoming project.

Fans of The Underachievers were first introduced to them through third eye talk and messages of self improvement. Often, their production choices were boom bap based and sometimes trap bangers. As the years went by, they prided themselves on doing both and started to use even stronger jazz elements too. This song finds them back in the boom bap lane with a soulful loop vocal sample. Produced by Billy Lemos, other sounds include a woodwind instrument, strings and keys.

Lyrically, the duo sticks to the motivational lane we’ve found them in on multiple other occasions. This is especially apparent in AK’s hook as he raps “Nowadays gotta find your own way / Gotta keep sendin’ praises to the Lord and clamin’ what ya own.” These sort of lyrics are all over his solo discography and it’s nice to hear him continue to carry himself that way on tracks from the duo. Issa uses his verse to tell about the power of keeping his circle on the same page he is while AK discusses how his solo journey keeps him moving forward. The energy is calculated from both of them as their lyrics fit comfortably over the jazzy production.

This is a solid single from the duo. It’s a great way to reintroduce themselves to the rap world and just like their debut in 2013, this stands out from what the rest of the game is doing right now. We’ll see if the same can be said for what they bring next.
