Maryland’s rapper Cordae is dropping a new single since his latest “Make Up Your Mind”. We haven’t seen a full-length project from Cordae since From a Birds Eye View which happens to be 2 years ago.

Cordae’s previous work was not the highest echelon of art and was certainly a weaker project than his debut The Lost Boy. Since the disappointing performance of the 2nd studio record, Cordae has been venturing into the exploration of different sounds. In the span of 2 years, we heard him delve into more jazz rap with “Two Tens” or a Pop Rap, and House-esque sounding “Make Up Your Mind” that have put him back under the spotlight. However now with his first single to the new album The Crossroads, Cordae might be on the right track.

“Saturday Mornings” dropped all of a sudden on Wednesday of 24 of July, and the only reason why I knew about this track was the music video and the feature by Lil Wayne.

And let me tell you, the production on this one is crazy.

Still being in the slight lane of Pop Rap, Cordae is giving you an aesthetically pleasing beat with the influence of Southern Hip Hop that matches his more laid-back delivery. Lyrically, this is a really solid performance by Cordae, as some of the lines made me think about it for a minute.

As far as concerns Little Wayne, he gracefully slides on the beat making the warm and light atmosphere, even warmer and lighter.

Being over 4 minutes long, the track does feel a bit extensive. Because of the slower dynamic and delivery, closer to the Wayne part it gets a bit monotone. I am still extremely happy about the fact that Cordae is back, and it seems like he is approaching this new record seriously.

I have been following him since his single “Super” which was a leading single to the 2nd album, and I must say that I miss that energized and dynamic flow on “Super”. With the next record, we may get a super technical album that is going to be complex and sound fancy, but on the other hand with 14–15 tracks, it may get a bit monotone and stale.

So to sum it up, Cordae is back alongside his new single “Saturday Mornings”. The record seems like a promising beginning to the new era of Cordae, however, the lack of inherent dynamic to the rapper deduces an overall engagement to the track.
