Travel tips for the business traveler — driving

Having just returned from a business trip to Nashville, Tennessee I’d like to give a few pointers to our business travelers and other driving travelers. Having survived a few months of this COVID-19 pandemic, it seems that a few things have changed… others, not so much.

The Drive

Planning for a whirlwind business trip with 5+ hour drive is not very exciting. It still requires the necessary planning for the hotel stay, travel routes, what to do on arrival and during downtime. My Chevy Tahoe loaded with computer bag, notes, and suitcase — I headed out with my GPS programmed to lead the way.

With many people now quarantined at home and lots of businesses closed or reducing their hours I was prepared for the reduced amount of traffic on the road. I was not prepared for the weekend construction on the highway and two traffic backups for miles as a result. Not too bad though. My five hour drive was now only running about 8 hours.

Pass the time with productivity

As I was driving, I called several colleagues to compare notes and clients to check in with them and their needs. This took almost 30 minutes. I’d have browsed the internet, but not a good idea while driving… so I popped open my audible account and listened to a…
