For when the passion isn’t there

Contrary to what some people might want you to believe, passion isn’t an ever-present, ultra-motivating, overpowering emotion.

Passion can certainly motivate and inspire, but the belief that it is the one constant behind a person’s success is just plain wrong.

Some days, the passion won’t be there.

Some days, you’ll feel no satisfaction when you recognise the momentum you’ve worked so hard to build.

Some days, it appears easier to simply take the road more traveled.

On those days, passion becomes worthless.

On those days, your passion transforms in to a grind and you begin to wonder what made you so passionate to begin with.

On those days, you rely on self-discipline.

Self-discipline is what gets you over the line when passion hasn’t left the starting blocks.

Self-discipline is what screams at you to keep going when every fibre of your being says stop.

Self-discipline is the cornerstone of success.

Without self-discipline, you’ll give up when your passion and motivation both skip a day.

Without self-discipline, you’ll sink back in to the couch and load up Netflix when the going gets tough.

Without self-discipline, success will remain firmly in the middle distance. In sight but out of reach.

In all walks of life, self-discipline breeds success, be it through confidence, productivity or pure persistence.

There are people in the world who will encourage you to find your passion, or inspire you to get motivated. These people aren’t wrong, they’re just not telling you the whole story.

I think self-discipline is something, it’s like a muscle. The more you exercise it, the stronger it gets.
