When going through a divorce or break up of long-term partnership, or even a shorter-term relationship where you saw a future ahead with this person, it can feel like a piece of you is gone. As if half of your identity is no longer there, just completely broken in half and has now disappeared. It is hard to bounce back from the void of this person in your life and may feel ultimately impossible to carry on. The weight of the loss is so heavy and crushing and can take a significant toll on you as a person. After a loss of someone you once loved, it is very hard to see even the remote possibility of brighter, happier times ahead.

However, with a deliberate path to move forward in your healing journey, you will find joy and happiness again. Time can eventually heal your wounds, but some of the pain can be eased right from the start by calculating your course of healing with purpose.

After a loss, you have to find the little things that bring you joy and renew your spirit. This will be different for each of us. These intermittent moments of joy could be as simple as savoring a delicious cup of coffee first thing in the morning, a brisk walk outside around your neighborhood taking in some fresh air and the sunshine, saying a prayer for healing or meditations, or meeting up with a close friend…
