I Changed Who I Was On The Inside And I’ve Never Been The Same

Can Changing Your Mindset Really Change Your Life?

I have changed my personality so many times in my 28 years of life and nothing actually changed until I changed my mindset.

When I was in high school, I was a mean girl. Embarrassingly mean. But only because I was unhappy with myself. When I entered college, I told myself I would never be that girl again that I left in my home town and I did change, yet I was still unhappy.

Over the past few years, I decided to change who I was on the inside rather than changing who I was on the outside and that is when I really noticed a difference.

Here are the steps that I took, that really made an impact.

1. Movement, in any form.

I have been an athlete my whole life. Because of this, if I do not move my body 4–5x a week, I am unhappy. Any form of exercise increases dopamine and serotonin which will improve your mood. This is a must for me and because I know this, I strive to exercise multiple days a week and if I don’t have enough time, I get in whatever I can — even a quick 15 ab circuit. Or I give myself grace. The choice is yours.

2. Boundaries

Boundaries are so essential. Boundaries with my job, my family, with my friends. I have learned that saying no is okay and is normal. Saying no does not mean others will hate me and resent me. It means that I have set boundaries and my priority is myself. So if I say no, the answer is no.

3. My opinion is not wanted unless asked.

Once you stop being so concerned with others’ lives, you begin to be happier in your own. They are not asking for your opinion every time they post a picture on social media. Stop analyzing and judging and worry about yourself. Like the post and move on.

4. WWJD

I have recently recommitted my life and it has changed my life. This may not be for everyone, and that is ok. Skip this step and move on to the next! But for me, knowing Jesus loves me, guides me, doesn’t judge me, and forgives me day in and day out does something to me that nothing else can. Before doing something I know I may regret, I just think WWJD.

5. Self-care

Last but not least, is self-care. No matter your gender, self-care is so important and can leave you feeling refreshed and grateful. Self-care to me looks like: taking a bubble bath, getting my nails done, doing yoga, shaving my legs, applying lotion, or doing gua-sha on my face.
