I am profoundly grateful for my female friends. They are what draw me to where I want to live, and they sustain me in my daily life.
It was not always so. As a young adult, I know I felt a sense of competition with women, from the boardroom to the bedroom. I never felt I could trust women. I thought men made better friends.
I guess the shift began sometime in my late 40s. That was when I met my dearest friend, Rebecca. Her friendship fills up my soul and leaves me with such a smile on my face.
We walked a Florida beach near our homes this morning, as we do each week when I am in Florida. In two days I will fly to my other home in France. Our eyes watered as we embraced with a hug that will have to last for several months.
My beloved friend doesn’t know that I didn’t appreciate her when we first met back in 2005. (Well, she will when she reads this, but I know that her kind heart will just chuckle to learn this story.)
