Let’s Get Rid Of The Term Stay At Home Mom
It’s antiquated and doesn’t reflect reality
There is no such thing as a Stay At Home Mom.
They simply do not exist.
You might be asking “But what about moms that…stay at home?”
Those, my friend, are Work From Home Moms.
Somewhere along the line, there became a distinction between moms who work at home, and moms that work at home. Spreadsheets and conference calls vs. poopy diapers and temper tantrums. Which one is work? And which one is not?
But really, it’s all work, isn’t it?
How do we define work?
As someone who left my original career when I had children, I‘ve often had a mental battle with myself over what is and isn’t work. Over what makes me worthy of being tired, worn out, burnt out. I compare myself to my friends who still have high-charged careers, even though I know the common saying is true—comparison is the thief of joy.
It’s hard to stop doing it though. And the comparison isn’t always between myself and others—sometimes I’m simply comparing current-me to my past self. Is one more successful than the other?
