Menopause is all the Rage — Literally
No one told me I’d be pissed off all the time.
“Menopause Rage” is actually a thing. It’s a real term.
I only just discovered this.
It feels like I’ve been walking around in an irritable state since hitting 50 a few years ago and I’ve never understood why. It was only when a friend mentioned her “menopausal anger” in jest a few days ago that the penny dropped. I thought, “So I haven’t been frozen in an extreme PMS state just because?”
An online Web search readily provided article and after article about how the hormonal changes during menopause can lead to irritability, hostility, and yes, Rage.
It helps to know that I’m not the only one becoming unhinged at the drop of a hat — literally.
A published study in the July 2008 issue of the Journal of Psychiatry & Neuroscience found that 70 percent of women reported irritability as their most common symptom.
I would take that irritability and up it to approach with caution.
At the age of 53 ish, I’m firmly in the menopause transition––although I’m foggy on when my transition started––and I have never been more irritable — ragey, even — since entering this life…
