Welcome to May, beautiful women of this rich and diverse community!
This weekend we arrive in the season of Beltane — the Celtic cross-quarter festival that sits halfway between spring and summer, when earth sings with fertility, flowers flare into bloom, and fire circles mark our longing for union, creation, and joy. Beltane honours passion not just of the body, but of the spirit — the spark that lights when we say yes to what we desire, yes to what we deserve.
This month, Modern Women stands in that firelight.
We live in a world that often tells us to dim, to wait, to earn our rest, our pleasure, our voice. But Beltane reminds us: we are already worthy. The blossom doesn’t apologise for blooming. The flame doesn’t ask permission to burn.
May is for choosing ourselves and our stories and as I stood in front of a burning wickerman yesterday with a flower crown in my hair, I felt excited for what is to come with this new season.
For those of us who write, who shape truth into language — this is also a call to set and stretch our boundaries. To say yes to the stories that want to be told, even when they’re inconvenient or raw. To say no to the old scripts that keep us small.
