My 3-Year-Old Started School!
I’ve Entered the Schooling Era of Parenting
My three-year-old son started school last week. And no, it’s not pre-school or VPK. So, what happened is that my son has been in speech therapy since he was 18 months old. The speech therapist would come to our house once a week for about 50 minutes to work with him. Once he turned three, they had to move him to the next stage since he still needed services.
The next stage is school! In January, they reevaluated him, and the specialists concluded that he needed the highest level of help they could provide. The highest level of help consists of attending school for a full day, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
Going to school every day is an enormous adjustment for him and for us. He’s been home with me and my husband since he was born, and we both work from home.
After the specialist told us that he would be going full day, I had been telling my son about school. Building him up for the moment. I sounded very excited when I talked to him about school and would tell him that he’s smart and will be learning even more!
Of course, we know that talking about something is entirely different from actually experiencing it, especially for a toddler.
